The Cochamó Trek is a multi-day backpacking adventure in the heart of Chilean Patagonia, based from the iconic La Junta Campground, surrounded by towering granite walls, ancient rainforest, rivers, and open mountain valleys. Known as the “Yosemite of South America,” Cochamó offers incredible trekking, scrambling, climbing, swimming spots, and wilderness exploration in a truly remote setting without roads, electricity, or internet.
Our standard itinerary is a flexible 6-day Patagonia trekking experience, with the option to adapt the trip into shorter or longer adventures depending on the group’s goals, fitness level, weather, and desired activities. Once established at La Junta base camp, most hikes can be done carrying only a lightweight day pack, allowing for comfortable days exploring the surrounding valleys and granite landscapes.

Day 1: Meet in Puerto Varas and transfer to Cochamó. Hike into La Junta base camp through lush temperate rainforest and along turquoise rivers. (13 km)
Day 2: Explore the iconic Toboganes natural slides, hidden beaches, waterfalls, and nearby trails around La Junta. Relax by the river or enjoy optional scrambling and short hikes.
Day 3: Day hike into the spectacular Trinidad Valley beneath the massive granite walls of Cerro Trinidad and its alpine lagoon. Strong groups may continue toward Monster Pass for views into the wild La Bestia Valley. (14 km)
Day 4: Discover the impressive Anfiteatro Valley, surrounded by towering granite walls and ancient forest with giant alerce trees over 1,000 years old. (12 km)
Day 5: Flexible adventure day with options for scrambling, peak bagging, climbing, extra hiking, or simply enjoying camp life in one of Patagonia’s most unique valleys.
Day 6: Pack camp and hike out toward Cochamó village before transferring back to Puerto Varas. (13 km)

The Paso León Trek is a scenic Andes traverse connecting Argentina and Chile through the remote landscapes of Northern Patagonia. This multi-day backpacking adventure combines daily camping, river valleys, mountain passes, and lush rainforest in a moderate-difficulty trek designed for hikers looking for a true crossing of the Andes without technical terrain.
A 9 days trip to see everything, and a 6 days trip for someone who’s on a shorter time schedule.

Day 1: Transfer from Bariloche to the trailhead and begin the trek into the Andes. Camp in the wilderness.
Day 2: Hike through remote valleys, rivers, and Patagonian forest. Wild camp.
Day 3: Cross the Paso León area and continue into Chilean Patagonia.
Day 4: Trek through lush temperate rainforest and isolated mountain landscapes. Camp by the river.
Day 5: Final day of the traverse toward Cochamó Valley with scenic trails and river crossings.
Day 6: Hike out of the valley and transfer back toward Puerto Varas or Bariloche.
Cochamó Extension – 9 Day Option
Day 6: Backup weather day or rest day to explore Cochamó Valley, relax by the river, visit hidden beaches, rope swings, or the famous Toboganes natural slides.
Day 7: Day hike into Trinidad Valley beneath the massive Cerro Trinidad and Trinidad Lagoon. Strong groups may continue to Monster Pass for views into the wild La Bestia Valley. Return to camp in La Junta. (14 km)
Day 8: Explore the spectacular Anfiteatro Valley, surrounded by towering granite walls and ancient forests with trees over 1,000 years old. Return to camp. (12 km)
Day 9: Pack camp and hike out toward the Pacific side of the Andes. Transfer to Puerto Varas for a well-earned meal and comfortable night in town. (13 km)

This 3-day scrambling adventure in Cochamó is perfect for hikers and mountain lovers wanting to explore Patagonia’s alpine terrain beyond the trail. Starting from La Junta base camp, we venture into the upper valley before climbing a beautiful summit via an exposed scrambling ridge using hands-on rock movement and occasional rope protection when needed.
The program combines remote mountain travel, alpine scenery, and accessible ridge climbing without requiring advanced technical climbing experience. Expect stunning views over the granite walls and wild valleys that make Cochamó one of Patagonia’s most spectacular mountain destinations.
